The TLC releases the results of their Taxi of Tomorrow survey

Back in November, the TLC asked for feedback on three new potential taxi designs, with the promise of free taxi rides for a year enticing more than 22,000 responses. Now the results are in, and you can read the report [PDF link] to find out New Yorkers’ habits and opinions when it comes to hailing a cab.

Karsan taxi concept from Karsan USA, which won the highest approval rating in the TLC survey.

Among the findings in the report, New Yorkers rate Taxi TV as the second most annoying part of riding in a cab, with the cost being their first concern. When it comes to what features are important on the taxi itself, one has to believe that the riders and the taxi owners would have opposite priorities: Riders ranked “environmentally friendly” as their top concern, with “durability and ease of repair” taking last place.

Interestingly, the most desired improvement was the ability to carry four passengers seated in the taxi, with 52% ranking it “very important” and 36% ranking it “somewhat important”, which would seem to indicate that taxis are used more for group rides.

What would be your “dream taxi”?
